This is a structured process in which potential security threats are identified, categorized, and analyzed, allowing organizations to address vulnerabilities before they can be exploited by malicious actors. In this blog, we’ll dive into the core concepts of threat modeling, its importance, and how it can be applied throughout the software development lifecycle.

What Is Threat Modeling?

At its core, threat modeling is about identifying potential risks to a system, understanding their likelihood, evaluating their impact, and then taking steps to reduce or eliminate these threats. The process allows teams to predict and counter potential security issues before they arise, rather than simply reacting to incidents after they occur.

Threat modeling can be done in two main phases:

Proactive (during development): This approach focuses on predicting and preventing threats before the system or application is deployed. It’s about designing security from the ground up.

Reactive (post-deployment): Once a system is live, new threats might emerge, and in this phase, threat modeling helps identify and mitigate risks based on real-world data and security incidents.
