What is a Public IP Proxy?

A public IP proxy is a type of proxy server that utilizes a public IP address to manage and forward requests from clients to internet services. When a client, such as a web browser or application, sends a request to access a website or online service, the request is first routed through the proxy server. The proxy then forwards the request to the destination on behalf of the client, hiding the client’s private IP address in the process.

This kind of proxy provides a layer of anonymity by masking the actual IP address of the client, making the request appear to come from the proxy’s public IP instead. Public IP proxies are commonly used for security, privacy, and access control, and they can also help bypass geo-restrictions.

How Does a Public IP Proxy Work?

When a user accesses the internet through a public IP proxy, their traffic is sent to the proxy server rather than directly to the target website. The proxy server then makes the request to the website using its own public IP address, rather than the user’s. The website responds to the proxy server, which in turn forwards the response to the user.

This mechanism has several benefits:
